ServConf help

ServConf operating mode

The SnapShots are images of the services's Start Type and Status.(this does not include Driver Services. See Service Types.) They can make the life of an Administrator (and not only) a lot easier allowing him to make predefined configurations which can work on any Windows NT/XP OSs. The snapshots does not neccesary need to cover all the services and they can change either the Start Type, either the Status or both.

The best approach is to make snapshots of the service Start Types and to reboot after applying them. This will ensure the good functioning of all services. (some services have difficulties in accepting some controls or do not start properly or at all if they are not started when Windows starts). However, ServConf is designed to check the SnapShots and to correct them following a few vital rules.

When you will try to start a service ServConf will first check it's dependencies and will start them even if they are disabled (will first enable and then start them) . When you're trying to stop a service ServConf will check its dependents and if any of them is running it will ask you if you want to stop them before trying to stop your service. (however this is not the case when applying a SnapShot when you don't get the chance to choose - it's assumed you know what you're doing !)

If errors are encountered in the SnapShot file affected entries are ignored on Apply. If the SnapShot file contains entries for inexistent services they are ignored on Apply.

You can edit a SnapShot after taking it or after loading it right in the SnapShot window. You can edit entries right clicking them and choosing other Start Type or other Status or remove them from the SnapShot. The list supports multiselect so you can change more entries at a time.
